Director of People, Culture and Safety
Full time, permanent. $80,000 to $130,000 a year.
Who we are:
For more than 26 years, Futurescape has kept Greater Sudbury moving. We are a locally owned team of more than 40 full time people in landscape construction, grounds maintenance, snow and ice, our own shop and fleet, a bulk landscape supply yard and our own limestone quarry.
Laurentian University, Cambrian College, Health Sciences North, Sudbury's Catholic and Rainbow District school boards and hundreds of homeowners trust us with their dream builds, property maintenance and long term property planning. Our goal is always to exceed expectations, all year round.
"We've built something amazing. Now we're looking for the person who helps us build something elite."
The role:
This is an executive seat, reporting directly to the owner. You will own the people side of Futurescape: finding the right people, giving each of them the tools and mentoring to become the best version of themselves, and sending every one of them home safe.
What you will lead:
- Hiring. Our winter and summer hiring seasons, from the first ad to the first day
- Onboarding and offboarding. A strong start and a clean exit for every person
- Policy. A short set of rules that everyone actually knows
- Pay and incentives. Our pay programs, including damage reduction and employee referrals
- Training and leadership. Our winter kickoff and snow seminar, and the development of our next leaders
- Engagement. Strong communication across all our crews, and action on what our people tell us
- Health and Safety. Our program and our Health and Safety committee. Safety is our first priority
- People planning. Our org chart, succession plan and people dashboard
- Culture. The recognition and giving back that make people proud to wear our name
Who you are:
- High energy and highly organized. Most people are one or the other. We need both
- Honest, always. You bring hard news straight, with solutions already in hand
- Self driven. You know what to do next without being told
- Thorough. You take the notes, book the meeting and close the loop
- A clear, confident communicator who earns trust on a job site and in a boardroom
- Proven follow through. You have committed to something and seen it all the way through, at work and outside it
What you bring:
- At least 10 years in HR or people leadership, ideally with a field, trades, construction or seasonal workforce
- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment standards, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WSIB
- A CHRP or CHRL (HR certification) and a health and safety certification are assets
What we offer:
- $80,000 to $130,000 a year, based on experience and leadership
- Benefits package
- RRSP with employer matching
- Annual workwear and safety gear allowance after your first year
- A seat at the executive table of a growing, locally owned company
- Start as soon as possible
